Dielle and Sunyoung Korea Oct 15th 2006

It's been such a long long time since I updated Dielle's blog, but now that I look back the older pictures, I see how much she has grown in the last year.
She and Sunyoung have been in Korea for the last two weeks, visiting the grandparents. Only another 7 weeks before I see them again. Yike!
In this picture, they have gone to see Uncle Mike, AUntie Yoonjung and cousin Jason in the park.

A visit from Deacon,

Deacon came over to spend some times with us. It was arguably the hottest day of the year, so we went to the water park. We found a nice shady place, shared some sushi and then went into the water.

It's funny that, no matter how hot the day is, that water is really cold.

The visits always end the same...

The Fan, by Dielle-Subine

Dielle took this picture with my camera. Actually, she wasn't really looking through the viewfinder or caring what was in front of the camera. She just liked pushing the button. This is the only one that wasn't blurry and had decent composition.

Happy Canada Day!

For the second time since we moved into our latest home, we enjoyed a pancake breakfast with the Jingleberries and the 456ers, and then went outside to watch the Canada Day parade. It was long, more than 90 minutes.

Ths time we were prepared enough to bring out our patio umbrella and stand to provide comfortable shade in this hot hot weather. That's one of the best things to livng on the parade route.

Happy Canada Day everyone!

Capilano Suspension Bridge

Vancouver has been having awesome weather these days! Sunny and hot hot hot!

Today the three of us took a Pre-Canada-Day day trip. We went to the West Van Aquatioc Centre and had a swimmingly good time. Then we went to the Capilano Suspension Bridge. We bought year memberships - it's the same price as a single entry and is currently two-for-one.

Dielle had her face tattooed painted, and we walked through the new Treetop Adventure. It's nice walking through the cool forest on a hot summer day.

Have a nice long weekend everyone!

Don't forget my friend Jonathan

I felt bad that we didn't include Jonathan in our pictures from the birthday party. I took pictures of him - and his parents, Rob and Gina - with my "new" film camera. However, I didn't load the film right, and so none of my pictures came out.

Therefore, I had to steal borrow pictures from his blog.

Kai's Birthday

Last weekend, we went to Kai's birthday party. He is just a little younger than Dielle. We really had a good time: There was a lot of food and games for the kids. Everybody took turns pulling the strings on a pinata.

After the party, Dielle wanted to play pinata at home: we would hold her goodie bag upside down and drop her candy and prizes on the floor. Again and again. For what seemed like hours.

The weather held out!
After weeks of fretting over whether Dielle's party would get rained out, we got together at Mahon Park to celebrate Dielle's 3rd birthday with beloved family and friends.
There to celebrate were Uncles Nick, Stephen, Trevor and Robert, Aunts Claire, Jennifer, Karen and Gina, cousins Taylor, Brody and Jacob, and good friend Jonathan. We felt blessed to be able to play with such great people.
Thank you for coming out!

Happy 3rd Birthday, Dielle-Subine!

It was three year ago (yesterday) that we were getting ready for the weekend - Auntie Bev and Uncle Dave were going to have their summer shindig - when Mommy's doctor suggested we stop by St. Paul's Hospital for a test. Four hours later, Dielle appeared in the world! So much for our weekend plans!

We all walked up to Brazza on Lonsdale and had some ice cream. Dielle had Cotton Candy and we had Vanilla Latte and Reece's.

We went to Family Fun Night at church tonight. It was lots of fun. Even Auntie Jen joined us with Taylor and Brody.
Dielle got a butterfly painted on her face. She sat still for more than five minutes while the painter worked on her. That's longer than she'll sit while she brushes her teeth!

Tonight, Mommy's friend Emi and her son Yoshi invited us over for dinner. We had a delicious Tempura dinner - just the five of us because Yoshi's Dad had to work.
Yoshi is 16 months but like most of Dielle young friend is larger than her petite frame. He is also quite shy but we knew how to make him laugh:
"Blowing Raspberries on Dielle's Tummy"
"Hanging Dielle Upside Down"
"Acting Shocked when Yoshi Dropped his Toys"
These are all standard games for the seasoned parent.

Today we went to a Toy and Clothing Swap put on by the Mothers of Multiples. It was quite a madhouse full of pregnant women and daddies with strollers stampeding through the bargains.
We picked up this baby grand and Dielle just loves it. She turns on one of the presets - "Samba," "Slow Rock," etc - and starts wailing into the mic.

I know Kristen won't like this picture - mouth full of food, funny facial expression - but it shows how much Dielle loves her and "looks up to her." She loves chaising Kristen around the house and treats her like a pal.

Dielle has enough to keep her busy these days. She attends iHope (a drop-in centre) twice a week as well as a Rec Centre playing program - where she got this facepaint job. Next week she starts Mother Goose - singing, dancing and nursery rhymes - as well as a new session of swimming lessons.
Fun fun fun.

Deacon turns 2

Yesterday, Dielle went to Deacon's house for his 2nd Birthday party. We all had a good time.
We see Dielle everyday so we don't often notice the day to day changes in her appearance - unless we follow the changes in her photos on these pages. However, we donn't see Deacon so often, so we were amazed to see the changes in his face, etc.
What a handsome little man.

Anasha and Dielle

Today, Dielle had her first audition in 2 years and it went great. Unlike her previous ones, in which she cried and cried, this time she ran around in pull-ups and screamed and played with other kids.
(The funny thing is that she is toilet-trained and only wears underpants these days. For the audition she had to go old-school and wear pull-ups.)
After the audition, she and Mommy came to the office and had lunch. Dielle ran around and drew pictures and hung out with Michelle. She also made quick friends with Anasha, one of my young talents.
All in all, a wonderful day.

We finally made it to one of Brody's games. Actually it was the last of the season, and we're gald we saw it: Brody was definitely one of the stars.
At the end, the team was awarded medals, which Brody proudly displays here with Dielle.

Snow Angel

The snow up Mt. Seymour was a bit icy, but Dielle lay down and made a snow angel as soon as she was able to.
She swept her arms and legs up and down and then stood up to admire her work.
She was very happy to play in the snow and often reminded me what was all about her. "Daddy! Snow!"

This is really her first experience in the snow. We've seen snow - she has even been here, at Mt. Seymour, before - but she was always either too young or asleep.

Have we had any non-raining days in Vancouver since New Year's?
Yes, as this picture shows.
We went down to our old neighbourhood to walk on the seawall and have some hot chocolate.
Whoo hoo!

This is Dielle's third Christmas.
She was numb in Santa's lap for her first one; knowing how she would react, we didn't even bother reintroducing them on her second.
This is her first real conscious Christmas. She enjoyed the lights, she had fun singing carols and she enjoyed our church events.
However, she has not yet really grasped the Santa-coming-to-our-house concept. For that reason, she was surprised to find a tent and a kitchen set in the middle of her living room floor Christmas morning.
Merry Christmas everyone! Happy New Year! God Bless You!
